"I said somebody should do something about that. Then I realized, I am somebody."

- Lily Tomlin

A21

The horrific truth is that human trafficking is the fastest growing industry in the world after weapons. There are over 27 million slaves in the world today - that's more than at any other time in human history. Every 30 seconds, someone is trafficked, and only 1-2% will ever be rescued. A21 is doing incredible work around the world to end this. Carolyn volunteered with A21 last Fall in Bulgaria & Greece and continues to support the organization as well as bring awareness to the issue. Please visit www.A21.org for more information.

Hashtag Lunchbag

Carolyn has volunteered with, and continues to support, this amazing grassroots organization that is now all over the world. Hashtag Lunchbag's mission is to bring people in a community together to make lunches enclosed with love notes of affirmation for the homeless. Once the lunches are made, that same group of people  goes out to distribute them. Carolyn has found her experience volunteering and visiting skid row to hand out these lunches and love notes, to be life-changing. Please visit www.hashtaglunchbag.org to see the nearest location in your city to volunteer.

AIDS Walk and APLA

Carolyn started participating & raising funds for the annual AIDS Walk LA at 15 years old after losing a family friend to the horrific disease. AIDS Walk LA funds APLA which gives assistance to those with HIV/AIDS. They provide counseling, groceries, transportation, medical care, housing, education, and most importantly, love and hope to those affected. The picture above shows Carolyn wearing her AIDS Walk shirt on the day of the walk. She wore a crown indicating that she raised over $1000, and she wrote all her sponsors' names on her shirt to symbolize them all walking with her in hopes that one day they wouldn't need to walk anymore. Funds for AIDS Walk also go to AIDS research. Please visit APLA and AIDS Walk for more information and if you are interested in participating in the next walk nearest you.

The Refugee Crisis

While Carolyn volunteered in Greece with A21 last Fall, she was exposed first-hand to the refugee crisis. They visited a refugee camp in Thessaloniki called Oreokastro. It consisted of mostly Syrian refugees, but also refugees from Iraq and Palestine. A21 is one organization that certainly helps bring clean water and assistance to refugee camps, but Carolyn also met Acts of Mercy at the refugee camp in Greece, volunteering to teach the refugees English as well as other skills. Hand of Hope is yet another organization actively assisting refugees, as well as places in need of clean water and medical care, that Carolyn contributes to and supports. Please keep the refugees and those living in war zones in your prayers.
